Murrysville council places additional conditions on Huntley & Huntley pipeline construction

Murrysville council placed a couple of conditions on Monroeville drillers Huntley & Huntley as the company prepares to build a small pipeline to feed natural gas from its Poseidon well pad in Penn Township to a Peoples Natural Gas line near Round Top Road.

Council voted unanimously Feb. 21 to add about three-quarters of a mile of Hoy Farm Road and 0.2 miles of Round Top Road to an existing maintenance agreement the municipality has with Huntley & Huntley.

Huntley plans to bring an 8-inch steel pipeline about 4,400 feet into Murrysville, along with a 3,800-square-foot gravel access road and meter pad.

Huntley spokesman Dave Mashek said the project will take about 90 days to complete, once the necessary permit approvals are in place.

Municipal engineer Scott Hilty estimated that about 100 round-trip truck trips per day would be associated with the project.

“We get that it's going to be an inconvenience for a period of time,” said council President Josh Lorenz. “We want to do whatever we can to make sure that inconvenience is minimized.”

That included requiring that, in addition to adjacent property owners, municipal officials must be notified five days in advance of when construction will be taking place; and construction hours will be limited to between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

“It's going to be long, and it's going to be loud,” municipal Chief Administrator Jim Morrison said. “And I imagine we're going to hear about it on a regular basis. Our major concern there is ‘passability' by residents, and access for emergency services.”

Hilty said he'd spoken with Huntley officials about Morrison's concerns.

“We're hoping that they'll be a good friend to the municipality on this,” he said.
