Two new Marcellus shale gas sites proposed in Upper Burrell

Huntley & Huntley has applied to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for permits to drill unconventional gas wells at two sites in Upper Burrell.

The sites are on industrial property owned by Acronic and Alcoa.

The “Selene” and “Calliope” well pads are about a mile apart, located off of Seventh Street and White Cloud roads.

The energy company, which submitted its permit applications on Dec. 28 to DEP will likely need additional approval of a conditional use by the township’s planning commission and supervisors, according to Steve Yakopec, township solicitor.

While the township recently received notice of the application of the two gas well permits, there have been no presentations of hearings yet scheduled, according to township officials.
